E.S. Deevey, ed., Growth by Intussusception: Ecological Essays in Honor of G. Evelyn Hutchinson (Hampden, CT: Archon Books, 1972).

This collection of essays celebrates G. Evelyn Hutchinson's influence on the history of ecology. A founder of ecosystem ecology through his own work in limnology (the study of lakes) and in his great mentorship activity. The articles--of M.J. Dunbar on "The Ecosystem as a Unit of Natural Selection" and Lawrence Slobodkin "On the Inconstancy of Ecological Efficiency and the Form of Ecological Theories"--for example, reflect the wide range of Hutchinson's interests.
